2 Slouchy Beanie with Puff Ball Pattern

I have been making a bunch of these slouchy beanies all weekend. I think they're the fastest, easiest, cutest hats to make to accessorize with this winter. So here's a pattern of how I made this beanie.

Yarn: I used a worsted weight yarn with changing colors.
Hook: I hook
Size: Any (I'll explain how to customize the fit)
(any yarn/hook will work for this pattern)

*This hat is crocheted from the bottom to the top.

Beanie Ribbing
To start chain 7 stitches (or more if you want your ribbing taller)
Row 1: Sc in the second ch. from hook and in each ch. until the end. Ch. 1 and turn.
Row 2: sc in the front loop only of each st across. Ch. 1 and turn.
Row 3-?: Continue row 2 until your ribbing fits snugly around your head.
Fasten off and sew ends together.

Beanie Body
Once you are finished with the ribbing sc a row around the top, sl to join.
Row 1-?: ch. 2, hdc in each st around. Sl to top of ch. 2. Repeat until you have the desired length.

Note: The longer you make the beanie body the bigger the slouch. To finish sew the top together by sewing from opposite sides and pulling to tighten and close the top of the beanie. Sew a puff ball on top of the beanie and you're done! (here's a link on how to make a puff ball)

2 Guest Post: Elisa Hunt & Cowl Pattern

I'd like to introduce to you my very good friend and fellow crochet blogger, Elisa! She runs her blog, Made  From Scratch, which is filled with fun, easy, and quick crochet projects. We first met when we both had our first babies and we were trying to get back into shape. Now we both have 2 babies and still manage to find time to crochet. She's here to share a lovely cowl pattern for this Fall.

Hello there, Im Elisa. I started my blog, Made From Scratch, in June of this year after a life time {or so it seems} of creating handmade crafts. Everything I make is something I feel I have needed for myself or wanted to make and display in my home. I started crocheting about 2 years ago when I wanted to make a blanket for my unborn child, then decided to quit after I discovered it seriously wasn't my talent { I was bad I promise}. A whole year later I decided to tackle it again after seeing what my friend Andrea here was seemingly whipping up in her sleep. This time I succeeded, now I'm addicted and pretty much never stop crocheting.

I LOVE easy, straightforward projects, especially when they are something that you need. With colder weather just around the corner who doesn't need a new cowl?

I love the puff stitch that I've seen in a few hats and scarfs so I decided to put together a little puff stitch item of my own.

This puff stitch really does make a beautiful cowl.
Heres the pattern!
{oh you're welcome}

Puff stitch Cowl
Puff Stitch: {slightly different version}: Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch and draw up a loop {3 loops on hook}, do this 3 more times {9 loops on hook}, yarn over and draw through all loops on the hook, slip stich
Chain 26
Row 1: Puff stitch in 2nd chain from hook and chain one. Repeat in every other chain across to make 12 puff stitches.
Row 2: chain 2 and turn. Puff stitch in each gap between two puff stitches on the previous row. Repeat to end of row making sure the last puff  stitch is made in the space between the last puff stitch and the chain 2 of the previous row.
Row 3 – 55: repeat row 2.
To join: place the 2 short edges together and single crochet along the edge going into the top of each puff stitch and the gaps between.
Fasten off and weave in ends. Turn cowl so that the joining seam is on the inside so no one sees it!

I can't wait until its cold enough to wear!

Make sure to go follow Elisa's blog so you don't miss out on all her Fall crochet projects. And check out her etsy shop!

1 Newborn Bear Beanie Pattern

yarn needle for sewing

Crochet Bear Beanie
magic ring 10 dc, slst to join (10)
Row 1: ch. 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, slst to top of ch. 2 (20)
Row 2: ch. 2, dc in same st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st,* repeat around, slst to top of ch. 2 (30)
Row 3-6: ch. 2, dc in each st around, slst to top of ch. 2 (30)
Row 7: sc around (30)
Fasten off and weave in ends

Ears:(make 2)
magic ring 6
Row 1: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Row 2: sc in each st around (12)
Leave long tail and sew both ears to the top of the beanie.

This beanie is my new favorite. The yarn is incredibly soft and stretchy and perfect for a newborn gift when you don't know how big the babies head will be. And the best part, it only takes about 20 minutes to make! Luckily I was able to whip up a couple of these before my little guy came.

1 Crochet Flower Headband Pattern

I feel silly even posting a pattern for this, because it's that easy. I used this pattern for the flower and for the band I simply chained the length of Kenzie's head, then did a double crochet, then single crochet around the entire band. Then just sew the flower onto the band and you're done. The only hard part is getting your two year old to sit still for a picture!

2 Ribbit

Just added this pattern and finished product to my shop. I realize these pictures are desperately missing a cute little newborn. I'm doing everything I can to make him get here sooner rather than later. Like using the "think system." I really hope by next week he starts listening.

0 Getting Ready for a Boy

I've added a few monster things to my shop, including this crochet Mike Wazowski pattern and this newborn dinosaur beanieWe're getting pretty excited for this little boy to come!

Plus, Kenzie is obsessed with Monster's Inc. and watches it just about every day. And lately she's been randomly saying "Mike Wazowski"—which is the cutest thing ever—so how could I not make her one? She loves monsters and is always wanting us to chase her around and play monsters. She will be the best big sister in just six (hopefully short) weeks. I'm planning on him coming in four weeks, though, because I'm not sure how many more of his soccer kicks I can take!

3 Branching Out

I recently purchased this book on filet crochet. And here is my first filet crochet project! It's of the LDS Mesa, Arizona Temple (if you couldn't tell). With filet crochet you use crochet thread and a size 6 or 7 crochet hook. They're tiny! It definitely takes some getting used to. Patterns are actually pretty easy to come up with because all you have to do is draw it out on graph paper.

I plan on framing this and giving it to my mom for a late Mother's Day present. I'm going to try making more and experiment with different yarns and hooks. So let me know what you think!

4 Crochet Lace Headband

I used this pattern to make Kenzie's crochet lace headband, I just used a simple chain around to modify the pattern into a headband. It took me awhile to get figure out crocheting with crochet thread and the tiniest hook, but it was worth it. Now if I could just figure out how to keep it on her head for longer than 5 seconds....any suggestions?

1 Crochet Fox Beanie Pattern

This fox pattern is now available!

I've been busy creating new patterns for my shop. I have about 10 other ideas that I hope to create soon. But let's be honest, these things take time! It took me all day yesterday and today to create and write this pattern. Can't wait to put a little boy head in it soon. (I'm 20 weeks today!)

3 Baby B's Blanket

I've been busy spring cleaning, finishing projects, crocheting like crazy, and getting ready for a boy to come into this family! I used this ripple pattern to make little b's blanket. I whipped it up in a little over a week and love the results. I'll also be making him a lego blanket and a million beanies. I just can't wait for my little smidge to come!

1 Spring Cleaning

I woke up today, looked out the window, saw that it was snowing, and decided it was time for some major spring cleaning! I love going through old boxes and finding all kinds of things. I especially love going through my keepsakes. The cream colored crochet blanket was made by my great grandmother, and the outfit was made by my mother for me when I was a baby. So this crochet business is in my blood!

I also pulled out all my old photo albums/year books. Look forward to some posts from the past this week.

7 New Yarn

As soon as we found out we were having a boy, I ran out to buy some yarn in boy colors! I'm so excited to make a baby boy blanket. I feel like most crochet blankets are geared towards girls, so I hope my pregnant brain can come up with some good ideas for a boy!

Don't forget about the giveaway. Last day to enter!

1 Crochet Newborn Football Beanie

I am just busting out the boy beanie's over here! Good thing it's almost summer. But really, I can't wait to put my little guy in this football beanie. You can find it in my Etsy shop.

I am so glad Nick will finally get a little sports fan to watch football, basketball, and soccer with. He's been feeling a bit outnumbered for awhile now, so I'm glad we'll be evening the male to female ratio in our home. Doesn't mean Kenzie and I won't stop getting our way though.

I have major pregnancy brain right now and have been doing really stupid things lately. Like spilling the milk at breakfast, mixing up my words, and running into things. It's awesome. I don't know how I graduated from college pregnant.

3 Crochet Easter Bunny Basket

Easter is my absolute favorite holiday. This is Kenzie's new Easter Bunny Basket, and I am so excited about how it turned out! It was a lot of work, but definitely worth it. I made this out of two skeins of yarn and a milk carton. I might start saving more of my recyclables to crochet them into nifty things like this. I'll have the pattern up in my Etsy shop soon, so stay tuned. Until then, save your milk cartons!
