I am finally done with my first crochet afghan! I started this at the beginning of summer and 6 months later it's finally finished. It took me more than 200 hours to complete, but so worth it. I love it. And I feel very accomplished. (I feel like I get some bragging rights after 200 hours). I was worried that I would never finish it. I tend to get really excited about big projects, get about half way through them and then get excited about something else, resulting in a lot of unfinished projects.
Silly as it may sound, this project taught me that I can do anything. I can take on big, long, tedious projects and finish them! When I look at this blanket I think about how patient I was and can be. It will be a constant reminder that the small and simple things we do each day can turn into something big and beautiful. Who knew crochet could teach you all those things.
I'm working on two more afghans not quite as big as this one, but so pretty. I'm really excited to finish them soon...ish.
Oh Andrea, it turned out SO beautiful! Congratulations on a *long* job well done! I love it, and I love the lesson you shared that you learned from it. :)

ReplyDeleteHi I just found ur blog & I followed. Wow! This is amazing! Totally gonna give you tons of KUDOS for this! (Can you hear the applause coming from me??? No? ok well, I tried.) I wish I lived around your area, I live in Missouri, no crochet club here. I love to crochet also, just finished a little girl's dress. I don't have a little girl, but someone will want it :) I would love to know how you made this, tutorial maybe? I have the time when I'm at home w/no classes in the morning... Anyways, Glad I found ur blog (thru pinterest). Would love it if you passed by my blog, fb page, or my yt channel & said hello! Can't wait to check out the rest of your blog posts!

I love this afghan! Any chance you can post a link to the pattern???
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I LOVE the colors you used. Would you happen to have the color yarn numbers or names that you used? Also, I tried to find the pattern, but it does not seem to exist anymore. Any suggestions? (Maddie steelodalisque at aol dot com)
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to the pattern I used: http://web.archive.org/web/20011226081401/members.aol.com/lffunt/sunburstgs.htm
ReplyDeleteI just did the first four rows of it.
And I used a bunch of different colors with the cotton-ease yarn from Lion Brand. You can find it at Joanns or Roberts.

so beautiful!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the links. Just one more question. How many skeins of yarn would you say you got? One for each color? Of course I would expect more for the white, but would you say one, two or three skeins of yarn for the colors?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've been inspired to do the bobble blanket too. Again, just love your colors. :)
I used about 20 skeins of yarn. Probably about 1 of each color, but I did buy 2 of some colors. I just bought them as I was making it so I can't remember exactly.
ReplyDeleteWho who have thought that your comment, about an afghan being a "reminder that the small and simple things we do each day can turn into something big and beautiful" would be just the words I needed to get me through this day?
ReplyDeleteLord, help me see the beauty in being small today.........
Beautiful - and you've absolutely hit the nail on the head about sticking with a project like this. I've always thought of myself as quite petulant and impatient but crochet has taught me that I can actually stick with things and when I do, they're worth it.
ReplyDeleteI love this!! You have inspired me. I really might have to try it. I love your blog by the way. I recently found it, and have LOVED looking through the past posts (obviously, lol).
ReplyDeleteLove it, I am finishing up an afghan that just keeps going and going. I'd love to try this one next
ReplyDeleteWow, I just found CraftGossip this afternoon, then your site, then this blanket...and I happen to be about 1/2 way through doing the exact same pattern, after modifying a different one, with similar colors but all on a black background. I am even more excited now to see mine completed!
ReplyDeletethis is fa-bu-lous. it's like one of these blankets that gets passed down the generations ! a job super well done !
ReplyDeletelove this blanket! great job! how did you join the squares? i'm working on a similar blanket & can't decide if i should join as i go or sew them all together- what method do you like?
ReplyDeletethanks! I joined wth a single crochet, but if i did it again i probably would join as i went.
